Imperative Interdependence, Not Individualism.

Fostine Opiyo Odhiambo – Independent HR Consultant.

Recognizing the importance of imperative interdependence is essential for self-evaluation for your first fifteen (15) days of this year. Imperative interdependence refers to a peremptory call where two or more people, situations, variables, or other entities rely on or react with one another in that one cannot change or survive without affecting the other. It is a vital call for the human resources to notice the importance of recognizing the importance in others for their own success. Basing on the 2020 pandemic challenges the first 15 days for this year should send a clear signal to people that it is no longer individualism but imperative interdependence. You need one another to succeed or grow.

Imperative interdependence is not open to appeal or challenge but a way to provoke our mind-sets on what will happen in the next 15 days before we end the first month of the year 2021. Many people had greater plans for the year. Some are experiencing life readjustments while other are yet to notice such readjustments. Some are hopeful while others have already lost hope. The great concern that it is too early for that change to be experienced may be true but majority will continue with the same challenges if they do not recognize the importance in others. You may be hopeful when you see the goodness in others and ready to walk together with others regardless of your status. When you drew your 2021 life resolutions, did you consider the value others can bring into your life? On the other hand, was your resolutions based on an individual dreaming and self-made plans? Can you reinvent your plans from theory to practice?

The World is designed in a way that people come together for a purpose, sharing challenges, breathing the same oxygen, enjoying the same sun and moon that God provides naturally and depending on one another. It is exciting when you find a colleague who shares the same concerns and burdens that you do! When you recognize the importance in others, you will simply identify with another person alongside you who will undergird you in the work and concerns you planned as a resolutions. Most of the resolutions we made are not extraordinary but they are the same things. When you recognize the values in others it will be simple to ask your friend, neighbour or colleague at place of work some vital questions. For instance if your resolutions was to look for employment after losing your job due to the corona pandemic. Questions like what plans you have for the job search. Do you have some people in mind or organizations to help you? Is your CV up to date. Which type of job are you looking for? What about self-employment as the best option? Such provoking questions can create credible success conversations. The best responses will be unleashed when we understand the concept of imperative interdependence. We cannot make it alone. We need one another. Imperative Interdependence is the way forward, not individualism.

If you are carrying concerns about your family or your work or your business or friends or your place of worship. You need to identify like-minded believers around you to share the burden with you in conversation and in redefinitions of the best way forward. In the next days to come do not attempt to bear your load of cares on your own. You need someone to talk to and share your concerns. You need another angle of observation and opinion. There is joy, peace and psychological healing when you share your concerns to the right person. Not all will support your concerns but the key point is to identify the right-minded believers. People who will correct you when you are wrong and walk with you to that point that you will be both comfortable about the success of one another. People who will not gossip about your challenges but will have empathy for your challenges. People that can connect you to others without announcing it to the world that ‘I am the one who has helped so and so’ People who recognize the values in others and understand that no situation is permanent. Everything woven in this world promotes imperative interdependence, not individualism. As you, evaluate your first fifteen days of the year 2021. Remember the following:

  • Success and growth is much possible through imperative interdependence.
  • Recognize the importance in others.
  • Identify the right-minded believers that add value into your life.
  • Deliberately seek out other believers with whom you can stand and share your load.
  • Redefine your plans through the help of right-minded believers.
  • Create credible success conversations.
  • Engage with right-minded persons in all your conversations and in redefinitions of the best way forward.
  • Everything woven in this world promotes imperative interdependence, not individualism.
